Optical

Fashion Eyewear at Affordable Prices

Have you refrained from getting your glasses or contact lenses at a doctor's optical because you thought they would be too expensive or out of your price range?

Affordable - At Tin Optical we strive to give you the best at a price that is comparable to most of the local optical shops in our area. An added plus is the fact that because we are on-site in an ophthalmologist's office, it allows us to give immediate attention if a need arises. Our optical was opened up in 1995 to make it more convenient for you, our patients! Our goal is to keep you coming to us for all your optical needs.

Convenient - Imagine the convenience of being able to shop for your frames while you are waiting to see the doctor, as well as the opportunity to have your selection and the order details taken care of before you are called in for your examination! When it is time to leave, you will only spend a few minutes more for our optician to take care of the final details. It will save you the time it would take to drive to another location to make your selection, and get your prescription filled by another optician. An added conveniene is  that if minor adjustments need to be done we do not have to send you to another place for your doctor to recheck you and have you come back to us!

Selection Whether it is prescription glasses or fashion sunglasses,we have a wide range to suit your pocket and your fashion sense. If we do not carry it, we will try our best to get you what you are looking for. Optical accessories, eyedrops and other optical needs are also available for your purchase.

Experience - We have experienced, professional opticians, trained as a medical team, who work closely with Dr Tin to give you the best vision, whether your selection is just for glasses or for contact lenses as wekk. Whatever your needs are, be it bifocal, trifocals, progressive, computer, work and safety glasses, or if it's simply basic or highly complex contact lenses, 'enhancing' lens to change the color of your eyes, prescription sunglasses, or just reading glasses,we will work to get the right eyewear for you.

Fitting Contact Lenses - Our expertise is Contact Lenses. Cindy Smith, our Senior Optician who is a member of the American Board of Opticians and is licensed as a Dispensing Optician, has many years of experience in fitting contact lenses including difficult and time consuming, hard-to-fit contact lenses.  Working in conjunction with Dr Tin, she has been very successful in fitting several patients who have been told they cannot wear contact lenses.

Contact Lens Replacement Therapy & LASIK-  Cindy Smith has also been trained in the management of Contact Lens Replacement Therapy better known as CRT. This procedure is an alternative to LASIK laser vision correction and is ideal for younger patients who are not eligible for LASIK or for those patients who have not yet decided to have LASIK for various reasons.  Our opticians are also trained to recognize the patients who are LASIK candidates and will make sure to team you up with our LASIK coordinator who will give you the information that you need to make an informed decision

Contact Lens Training, Education & Replacement -

Contact Lens Training and Information in Patient Education in lens care and eye health for new patients is given by our opticians. These special appointments are scheduled on less busy days in our office in order to give full attention and individualized care to our first time lens wearers. This is also true of any optical patient who have entrusted their care to our opticians at Tin Laser Vision Center.

All contact lens patients are required to adhere to our policy for the best vision and more importantly for their eye health as contact lens are by prescription, and are foreign objects placed on the cornea of the eye. Corneal warpage, corneal ulcers and other eye diseases may be caused if not checked or if they are ill fitting. Scheduled visits and annual follow up visits must be kept in order to have healthy corneas that will tolerate the contacts and give you years of sharp, crisp vision. Failure to follow instructions may result in damaged eyesight possibly leading to blindness due to prolonged negligence.

Replacement lens are required to be ordered a week in advance so that we may have them ready for you when you come to pick up your lenses. Glasses and Contact Lenses are charged at the time you place your order with us and are paid in full when dispensed.

Our Committment -

We are committed to serving you with the best professional care and expertise, and will work very hard to make sure that you are able to achieve the best possible vision, and that you will come away satisfied with our care.  We will work with you as long as we need to, so that we can bring about the best possible results. However, if for any reason, you return your glasses or contact lenses there will be a 15% restocking fee.  Your refund check will be issued by our patient accounts manager as soon as any accounting details are taken care of.

Some contact lenses that are custom made for your eyes may not be returnable or refundable. We however take a high end warranty so that we can have the lab redesign these custom made lenses to fit you perfectly. Much of the costs is absorbed by us, and we will try our very best and absorb the time it takes to get the best vision and the best fit. However, if you decide that you do not want to wear the lenses, we may not be able to make any refunds if there is not even a partial refund for your lenses from the lab.

2 Convenient Locations to Serve You -

Our downtown office is at 930 Oak Street, and is located in the heart of the historic Fortwood district only a block away from the intersection of the McCallie and Central Avenues. It is in close proximity to Erlanger Hospital and only a couple of blocks away from it. The Optical Boutique situated in the 'dining room' of the 1905 Victorian Home belonging to Dr. & Mrs Tin, replete with chair and plate rails, 12 foot ceilings, original tiger oak pocket doors, leather wainscoting and original oak floors, is managed by Cindy Smith.

Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday all day and anytime the Doctor is scheduled for patients.  Fridays are by appointment only as this is usually Cindy's off day except for one Friday a month when Dr Tin sees patients. Cindy is off on the Wednesday before, as she has to come in on that Friday. However, we will have an optician on call if needed for emergencies. We also have our Fort Oglethorpe optician if immediate help is needed. Cindy tries to preschedule her patients so that she will be able to help them on a consistent basis, but walk ins are welcome and she is glad to work everybody in. A handicap entrance, parking lot and handicap elevator is available for the convenience of our patients with physical disabilities.

Our Fort Oglethorpe office is located at 1638 Battlefield Parkway and is at a convenient intersection on Hwy 2A. It is situated near the Elementary School and Walmart,  and close to the Battlefield Shopping Center and Lowe's. Handicap ramps and restrooms, double doors, modern conveniences and  bright and cheerful rooms are available for our patients. Our optical dispensary at this location is the central focus as soon as you enter our building, inviting our patients to browse and be helped by our optician who is available to answer questions .  This dispensary houses our optical lab and we are able to offer 1 hour service to our patients based on their prescription. This location is managed by Steve Hamil, who is also a caring, compassionate optician and qualified to help you with all your optical needs.

The hours of operation are Monday through Friday all day.  Saturday hours are from 9 am to 1 pm  on designated Saturdays and special arrangements can be made to accomodate you.   Although Steve works by scheduled appointments to give individual attention and sufficient time for each of his patients, we welcome walk ins and patients who come in with valid prescriptions from other eye physicians and are glad to take care of each one who comes to our practice.
